CeprLab presents its paediatric pulmonary research at the 9th World Bronchiectasis Conference in Hannover

The CeprLab pulmonary-rehabilitation team travelled to Hannover, Germany, for the 9th World Bronchiectasis Conference (24–27 June 2026) — the leading international meeting on bronchiectasis and chronic suppurative lung disease — to present its research on children living with these conditions.

What the team presented

The lab's work at the conference came from its Pulmonary Rehabilitation research line, led by Prof. Eleni Kortianou. Two studies were presented as posters:

• A pilot study testing whether the six-minute walk test and the Chester step test — two simple, low-cost field tests — can reliably detect exercise-induced oxygen desaturation in children with chronic suppurative lung disease, where such desaturation often goes unnoticed in clinical settings.
• A study on user satisfaction and the co-design of a website to support physiotherapy management for these children and their families, developed together with the people who would actually use it.

Why it matters — and for whom

For children and families, better field tests mean exercise-related breathing problems can be spotted earlier, using equipment any clinic already has. For clinicians, co-designed digital tools make evidence-based respiratory physiotherapy easier to deliver. Presenting this work at the field's foremost international conference places CeprLab's paediatric respiratory research alongside the global bronchiectasis community.
