Alphletix project kicks off — AI to help prevent sports injuries in young athletes

On 1 April 2026, CeprLab hosted the kick-off meeting of Alphletix, a new funded research project that brings artificial intelligence to the prevention of sports injuries in young athletes.

What Alphletix is

Alphletix aims to contribute to injury prevention in young athletes through modern, innovative approaches — with evidence-based, timely decision-making at its core. The project connects research with clinical and applied practice, using AI and machine learning to help identify injury risk before it becomes an injury.

It is funded under the "Partnerships of Businesses with Research Organisations" action of the Thessaly 2021–2027 regional programme. The project is scientifically supervised by Prof. Eleni Kapreli, with Prof. Nikolaos Strimpakos and, from the Department of Informatics with Applications in Biomedicine, Prof. Dimitrios Iakovidis; the company partners are Physiopraxis and The Medical Project.

Why it matters — and for whom

For young athletes and their coaches, earlier and better-informed decisions can keep preventable injuries from happening. For clinicians and sports scientists, Alphletix tests how AI can support — not replace — professional judgement. And for the region, it is a concrete example of universities and companies in Thessaly building research together.
